Sound of love

I am reposting today from August 8, 2009. I am linking up to Life in Grace, Love. On Purpose. 1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

I heard love this morning, as I was half in, half out of sleep...

It sounded like footprints corralling pitter-pattering feet through the hall and down the stairs.

It sounded like clanging cereal bowls, with shiny sterling spoons.

I heard it when Cheerios were being poured from the box into the bowls, then I heard giggles and chattering. Laughter, because daddy was home, and shushing, because mommy was sleeping.

I fell back into a deep sleep, minutes passing for I don't know how long. Only to be awakened again by the sounds of love knocking on Jenna's door.

Her cries stopping and turning into a little voice squealing with delight as her daddy cheerfully said, "Good morning Sugar Girl!"

I rolled over and snuggled in yet again, to be woke up one last time to the sounds of love.

This time it was a the sound of a dishwasher being unloaded, pots being put away under the stove and cabinet doors opening and closing.

The vacuum started sucking up leftover Cheerios and crumbs fallen from sticky fingers, rejected by full tummies.

My heart smiled as it heard love whispering my name. Love abundantly giving rest, and sacrificing self.
